Title [Experience] About the set of pictures Golden Saint
Time Sat Sep 6 23:38:10 2003
I actually chose this subject because I was on a BBS station in mainland China.
I saw someone created several related works
Although it was first converted using a program and then modified.
A little rough but feels pretty good
Just in time for the opening of the board, new works are needed to meet the occasion.
At first I thought since I was just drawing a big head
It should be quite easy. Then twelve pictures at a time will be the victory based on quantity.
At the same time, I also create with the determination never to lose to the program.
However, when I actually painted it, I realized that my estimate was really wrong.
Because the Golden Saint Cloth itself is a very difficult subject to deal with
In addition to the single yellow color itself, there are also colorful light and shadow effects
It is also very complex in structure and has many trivial decorations.
If you are not careful, you will be confused by the light, shadow and texture of the original image.
The more I draw, the less I know what to say.
It can be said that these twelve pictures were created at the same time.
The habit of pressing down as long as you can draw the facial features
One picture can be said to be fifty percent complete.
So I finished the faces one by one first, and then dealt with the troublesome holy clothes.
I didn’t expect the difficulty to be really high.
On the way, I even had the idea of giving up everything.
It’s just that I’m riding a tiger and it’s hard to get off. I’ve already completed my facial features.
It would be a pity not to continue painting and finish it
I originally wanted to draw a few big heads easily.
But still to insist on high quality
And constantly retouching tiring details
Even the facial features were greatly adjusted later.
It took nearly a month to complete.
It's really a waste of money. Everything is brought about by yourself.
Although this kind of mug shot is mainly about the head,
But if it’s just the head, the richness will be insufficient.
And if the holy robe is missing, it won’t be distinctive.
Due to the BBS interface, it is within the scope of one screen
It looks like a horizontal rectangle, which makes it necessary to match it when selecting pictures.
In addition to trying to comply with this characteristic
When the graphic is too large, you need to perform a cutting action
If it were to be completely integrated into one side, the entire object would inevitably shrink.
Many details must be discarded, which is difficult to handle and the results may not be ideal.
So when you draw, you should first consider what you want to express.
To give people a substantial feeling, the picture must be drawn larger to increase details.
But it cannot be too large, otherwise less content will fit into the screen and it will become unbearable to watch.
So first you have to think about what parts you want to cut
That is to make the invisible parts feel like they extend out of the picture.
Keep room for imagination without feeling like something is missing
The second is about how to deal with the texture of the holy garments
The drawing method below is to first spread from the area to the whole
And sometimes I find it difficult to draw, so I skip drawing other parts first.
So develop a habit, that is, skip the light and shadow part first
This will make it easier to handle and you don’t have to think too much.
Finally, adding light and shadow makes it easier to grasp the feeling.
In order to express reflection, high brightness must be used
But when using high brightness, it is often impossible to achieve detailed performance.
And make the picture look rough
The key here is color matching
The secret is not to be constrained by using high brightness
The focus is on visual comfort as a priority
Or shouldn’t I say here
Because color matching is definitely the most important key to the success of a work.
The trouble with the holy robe is that it is all yellow
But there are very few colors available, so use a sense of contrast.
In addition to high brightness, the other available color is white
For dark parts such as shadows, use indigo.
For something more intense, use red
But the contrast between red and yellow is stronger
If used too much, it may become uncoordinated.
Should be used according to the situation
The black one is also pretty easy to use.
Decorating it with black in appropriate places will have a good separation effect.
Another thing to note is that it is a high-brightness gray color
It's not quite suitable as a shadow color on armor.
Because it mixes with yellow
In fact, the same is true for indigo, to a lesser extent.
Still available
When creating this set of pictures
The biggest feeling I have is that
Lighting, shadow and color matching don’t all have to be done according to the original picture.
You can make your own judgment based on the situation
The point is still to focus on the feeling you want to express
In terms of this type of subject matter
The colors of the original image are very confusing
When painting, just consider the approximate direction of the light source
Just handle it yourself
above
Although it seems to be a common theory
There should be a lot of people who understand
But actually creating is still difficult.
The key is to practice regularly
Only in this way can we express it comprehensively and appropriately.
