Let me reprint a piece of the letter I exchanged with being. I hope it will be useful for reference.
The following are words for being
The second is how to deal with the texture of the holy garments
Since the following is purely hand-drawn, I started drafting it from the beginning.
However, the drafting method is different from the general direct drawing of the outline.
In the following, it is first spread from the block to the whole
Therefore, I also developed a habit, which is to "skip the light and shadow part first"
This will make it easier to handle and you don’t have to think too much.
Finally, adding light and shadow makes it easier to grasp the feeling.
Because to express light, you must use highlighted squares
However, when using highlights, it is often difficult to achieve more detailed performance.
And make the picture look rough
The key here is color matching
The secret is not to be constrained by using highlights
Prioritize visual comfort
The trouble with the holy robe is that it is all yellow
But there are very few colors available, so use a sense of contrast.
What I do next is
First, use a single yellow color to draw the outline
Then slowly add other colors
In addition to highlighting, the other available color is white
For dark parts such as shadows, use indigo.
For something more intense, use red
But the contrast between red and yellow is stronger
If used too much, it may become uncoordinated.
Should be used according to the situation
The black one is also pretty easy to use.
Decorating it with black in appropriate places will have a good effect
Another thing to note is that it is a highlight gray
It's not quite suitable as a shadow color on armor.
Because it mixes with yellow
In fact, the same is true for indigo, but to a lesser extent.
Still available
Finally it is
"Light and shadow don't have to be all done according to the original picture"
You can make your own judgment based on the situation
The point is still to focus on the feeling you want to express
In addition, the color block is painted where it encounters complete black
May find it difficult to handle
At this time, in addition to using lines to outline,
It can be used as a background to highlight the silhouette.
That's roughly it
