有个Joan Stark(缩写jgs),她至少画了几十年了。

It turns out that the character painting you are talking about refers to this
I think this is the same as outline painting
Also, I don’t think he is the prototype of line drawing.
The earliest single-byte line drawings have a long history
I saw foreign works when my domestic university first got access to the Internet.
There is Joan Stark, abbreviated as jgs. She has been drawing for at least several decades.
To this day, you can still see the kittens and puppies she used to draw everywhere.
At that time, works could only be circulated through email and mailing lists.
For internationalization, only single-byte characters can be used.
Personally I think this is the case
The range of word selection for single-byte paintings is relatively limited.
Since bbs made the creation and circulation of double-byte works possible
The emergence of double-byte characters has greatly expanded the range of character selection for line drawings.
Therefore, many lines that originally need to be formed between characters
Through clever word selection, it can be expressed within the characters
And the principle of finding space inside the characters
As early as the period of single-byte line drawing, it was an important technical means and the joy of creation.
So I think this so-called character painting is the development of single-byte line drawing in terms of style and principle.
Mentioned in the masterpiece of dntx Winter Bird Listening to Snow:
: This painting method is the earliest "character painting", which directly uses the shape of characters to draw.
: Different from earlier dot matrix paintings and later color block paintings
: It can be regarded as the prototype of today's "line drawing"
