Title: Re: Techniques for using the internal space of characters in single-byte paintings
Sending station: BBS Westward Journey Station Thu Jul 25 14:26:16 2002
I changed the title. Now that we’re talking about this topic, I’ll give it a try.
Let’s start with single byte and talk about double byte.
I think double-byte is just an extension of single-byte
For example, if you want to draw a 45-degree diagonal line in a single-byte painting, you can only do this
'. or
'.
'.
'.
With double-byte characters, it can be completely constructed using
In addition, one of the important reasons why people don’t like single-byte paintings is that they are too fragmented and incoherent.
.. ^^^^^ .. This arc is thorny
Slashes are not immune either; there are too many breaks in between.
Almost all the paintings at that time were like this
So later there were these double-byte characters
It can form coherent and uninterrupted lines, and the visual effect is greatly improved, represented by mock's works.
But there is another problem with these characters, that is, they only have 45 horizontal, vertical, and slanted characters.
Inevitably lead to rigid defects
Single-byte characters are flexible but inconsistent
Therefore, coherence and flexibility become a contradiction
I personally like something in between
To be as coherent as possible without affecting flexibility, therefore it is necessary to use multiple characters
Looking for characters that can connect the previous and the following and express accurately
This is why I like to use Chinese, Japanese and phonetic symbols
dntx The two subdivisions you mentioned
I think it is the differentiation of two different aesthetic tendencies, the pursuit of coherence and the pursuit of flexibility.
Until now, this differentiation has tended to merge.
