I still use that analogy
In the past, before photography, the aesthetic standard for paintings was whether they resembled each other. The more similar, the better the painting.
Now with photography, you only need to adjust the aperture and shutter to a person or a scene.
You don't even need to adjust the fool-proof machine. Just click and an exact copy of the 'painting' will be ready.
After less than an hour of rinsing, the finished product can be made without even washing.
So now, has painting developed or regressed?
It seems that those who sketch are still sketching and those who paint are still painting.
Hanging an exact copy of a landscape photo on the wall is still not as tasteful as hanging a less precise landscape painting.
On the contrary, a group of people are reflecting on whether painting should aim at elephants. So there are Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso.
However, the traditional painting technique that aims at elephants is not of interest to many artists today.

: This point has a strong philosophical meaning, but I personally think it has little significance for actual asciiart.
: Imagine a situation. One day, all kinds of conversion software and editing software will be available.
